California State University LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate

The California State University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CSU-LSAMP) has designated Cal State LA as the  performance site for its 2012-2014 LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) Program, should the project be funded by the NSF.  Although BD applications are not yet available, it is important that students who might be interested in participating in CSU-LSAMP’s BD Program be encouraged to apply NOW for admission to Cal State LA for Fall Quarter, 2012 and to the specific Department that offers the student’s intended major.  In order to be eligible for the LSAMP-BD program, a student (a) must have been a participant in an LSAMP as an undergraduate, which will require verification from the campus LSAMP program; and (b) must have been accepted into a STEM discipline (see list below) graduate program at CSULA.  Therefore, we would appreciate it if you would advise students that, in addition to applying for admission to the University through CSU Mentor, most Departments require submission of a separate application with a much earlier deadline (e.g., early March) than the general University admission deadline.  Departmental specific applications and deadlines can usually be found on Departmental websites.  Students will also have to complete an application for acceptance into the BD Program when they become available.  Dr. Margaret Jefferson, Professor of Genetics, who will serve as lead project director if the project is funded, has provided the following links to assist students in finding out more about the application process and deadlines.  Questions regarding the project  should be directed to Dr. Jefferson, whose contact information is also provided below.
